History
Bombardier, based in Montreal, moved into aviation in 1986 when it bought Canadair, the company behind the Challenger. Four years later it added Learjet, and within a short time it ranked among the largest business jet manufacturers in the world. The Global 6000 sits at the long range end of that family.
At launch, no aircraft in its class had a wider cabin, and the Global 6000 offered more volume and floor area than its direct rivals. It seats 13 and can sleep up to eight. With 6,000 nm (11,112 km) of range, it flies Los Angeles to Geneva or Hong Kong to Paris without stopping.
Two Rolls-Royce BR710 engines give it the reach for intercontinental sectors, and the wing was designed to keep the cabin quiet in flight. The cabin pressurisation is set to reduce fatigue, so passengers tend to arrive in better shape after a long flight.
The flight deck is Bombardier's Vision system, introduced in 2012 and built around the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics suite. Before that upgrade the aircraft was sold as the Global Express XRS, and the new avionics brought the current name. Beyond business use, versions of the type serve with the military, including the German armed forces, and also fly as air ambulances and on other special missions.

FAQ
What range does the Global 6000 have?
Its range with IFR reserves is 6,000 nm (11,112 km). In practice that covers Los Angeles to Geneva, Hong Kong to Paris or London to Los Angeles in one sector, with no fuel stop on the way. Headwinds, payload and the season all affect the figure on a given day.
Should I choose the Global 6000 or the Gulfstream G650?
Both are large intercontinental jets with room for big groups. The G650 needs a shorter runway and goes further, at 7,000 nm against 6,000 nm, which opens up more distant and smaller airfields. The Global 6000 takes more payload, so it suits groups travelling with a lot of luggage. Rates depend on the operator and positioning, so we can quote both where either would work.
Is the Gulfstream G550 a better fit than the Global 6000?
The G550 has more range, at 6,750 nm (12,501 km) against the Global's 6,000 nm. The Global 6000 has the wider cabin and a quieter interior. Both are bought and chartered for the same kind of intercontinental trip, so the decision usually rests on the route, the cabin you prefer and which aircraft is available on your dates.
What changed with the Global 6500?
The Global 6500 replaced the 6000 in production. It is powered by Rolls-Royce Pearl engines, has refined aerodynamics, burns less fuel and has an updated interior, while the cabin dimensions are almost the same. The Global 6000 is still widely chartered, thanks to its proven performance and the number of aircraft in service around the world.
Will the Global 6000 fit shorter runways?
It can use some airports with shorter runways or demanding approach procedures, which can put you closer to a city centre than a large commercial airport would. Its listed takeoff distance is 1,974 m and its average landing distance 682 m. Whether a particular airport works depends on runway length, airfield altitude, weather and payload, and our advisors confirm this for each trip.
What should I expect to pay for a Global 6000 flight?
Each quote is built around the specific trip. The main factors are the route, the dates, where an available aircraft is based before it collects you and the operator's own rates. An advisor prices every flight individually and will give you a figure once those details are settled.
