History
Embraer designed the Legacy 450 to sit between the Phenom 300 and the Legacy 600 in its range. The company announced it at the 2007 NBAA convention together with the Legacy 500, the larger of the two new mid-size designs. Development of the 450 followed the 500, and its timetable ran about a year behind.
It was the first jet of its size to combine fly-by-wire flight controls with a flat-floor cabin and standing headroom. The aircraft made its first flight on 28 December 2013, and after a full certification programme it was approved on 11 August 2015. Production continued until 2020.
In October 2018 Embraer introduced the Praetor 500, a development with additional fuel capacity for longer range. Owners of existing Legacy 450s were offered an upgrade to Praetor 500 standard, which allowed earlier aircraft to benefit from the same improvement and showed the manufacturer's continued support for its customers.

FAQ
Is the Legacy 450's range longer than the Citation Latitude's?
It is. The Legacy 450 is rated for 2,904 nautical miles (5,378 km) against 2,678 nautical miles (4,960 km) for the Citation Latitude, about 418 km more. That margin can remove a fuel stop on longer routes. The Embraer is also slightly quicker, at 856 km/h against 826 km/h, while the Latitude has sold in greater numbers.
How many passengers does the Legacy 450 carry?
Standard layouts seat seven or eight, and the maximum is nine. The cabin is 7.32 m long, 2.08 m wide and 1.83 m high, with a flat floor, so passengers can stand upright, which is unusual in this category and makes longer flights noticeably more comfortable. The hold takes around six suitcases.
Where can the Legacy 450 fly non-stop?
Its range with IFR reserves is 2,904 nautical miles (5,378 km). That is enough to cross North America, for example New York to Los Angeles, and most European destinations are within a single leg. On the longest routes, your advisor will check the range against passenger numbers and forecast winds.
Why is fly-by-wire significant on the Legacy 450?
No super midsize jet had fly-by-wire flight controls before the Legacy 450, which was certified in 2015. The system replaces many mechanical links with digital control, which reduces pilot workload and adds flight envelope protection. It also contributes to smoother handling and better fuel efficiency, features usually found on larger and more expensive aircraft.
How fast does the Legacy 450 cruise?
It cruises at 462 knots (856 km/h), one of the quicker speeds in the super midsize category, and its maximum operating speed is Mach 0.83. London to Rome takes under two hours, and the long-range cruise speed of 438 knots is available for longer sectors.
