History
The Legacy 650 first flew on 23 September 2009 from Embraer's Gavião Peixoto site in Brazil, and Embraer presented it publicly at the NBAA-BACE show in Orlando, weeks after that flight. Deliveries began on 19 November 2010. The design is derived from Embraer's ERJ 135 airliner, and operators valued that airline heritage.
Up to 13 passengers sit across three cabin zones. Extra insulation, separately controlled air conditioning and modern communications equipment in each zone mean the areas can be used for different purposes at once, for example a meeting in one zone while others rest in another. In the cockpit, Honeywell's Primus Elite avionics are known among pilots for being easy to use.
Embraer followed with the 650E, unveiled at NBAA in 2016 and offered to buyers from 2017. It added an autothrottle and a cockpit display that gives pilots a clearer picture of the flight environment, together with a redesign of the three cabin zones. Until 2016 a joint venture with the Chinese manufacturer AVIC also assembled aircraft in China. After that, all production returned to Brazil.
Embraer stopped building the 650E in the latter half of 2020, choosing to focus on its best-selling models in a difficult market, and it continues to support the aircraft in service. During its production life the Legacy 650 competed against jets such as the Gulfstream G280, the Bombardier Challenger 850 and the Dassault Falcon 2000XLS.

FAQ
What does a Legacy 650 charter cost?
There is no fixed hourly rate, because the price is set by the details of each trip: the route, your dates, where the aircraft needs to position from and which operator flies it. A Hesper Jets advisor prices every request individually and will show you how small changes, such as a different departure airport, affect the figure.
Where does the Legacy 650 have the edge over a Gulfstream G280?
The Legacy 650 seats up to 13 passengers, against eight in the G280, and it carries roughly a quarter more payload at take-off. It also flies further. The G280 is the better choice for short runways, needing about 195 metres less for take-off and landing, and it is faster and cheaper to operate per flight hour.
How many people can travel on a Legacy 650, and how is the cabin laid out?
It seats 13 passengers. The cabin is 15.19 m long, 2.06 m wide and 1.83 m high, and it is split into three zones that can each be set up differently, for example as a lounge, a conference area or a private bedroom. Each zone has its own climate control. The 8.1 cubic metre hold takes around 20 suitcases and can be reached during the flight.
How quickly does the Legacy 650 cruise?
Its two Rolls-Royce AE 3007A2 engines give a cruise speed of 459 knots (850 km/h), which is competitive for a large jet. In practical terms, London to Dubai takes about seven hours and New York to Los Angeles a little under five. The maximum operating speed is Mach 0.8.
Can a Legacy 650 fly further than a Dassault Falcon 2000?
It can. The Legacy 650 is rated for 3,900 nautical miles, while the Falcon 2000 manages around 3,130, a difference of about 1,426 km. That margin lets the Legacy fly longer routes direct, including ocean crossings that might need a fuel stop in the Falcon. Passenger capacity is similar in both aircraft, and they compete in the same large jet segment.
How far can the Legacy 650 fly, and which city pairs does that cover?
With IFR reserves its range is 3,900 nautical miles (7,223 km), so intercontinental sectors such as Dubai to Singapore or New York to London can be flown without a fuel stop. Compared with the Legacy 600 that preceded it, the extra range comes from uprated engines and structural changes that let the aircraft carry more fuel.
