History
The G280 began in 2005 as a joint project between Gulfstream and Israel Aircraft Industries to succeed the G200. Launched in 2008 under the name G250, it was meant to keep Gulfstream present in the mid-size market. The first flight took place in Tel Aviv on 11 December 2009, opening a long certification programme.
In July 2011 the aircraft was renamed G280, because Gulfstream judged that number sequence to be better received in some cultures. Israel granted provisional certification that December, customer deliveries followed in 2012, and the type is still in production today.
Compared with the G200, the G280 brought more performance, modern avionics, better engines and refreshed cabin systems, while keeping the operational flexibility that had made its predecessor a success. Its two Honeywell HTF7250G engines give a range of 3,600 nm, and the PlaneView280 flight deck is built for a two-pilot crew.

FAQ
How many passengers fit in a G280?
The standard layout seats 8 to 10, and the maximum is 12. The cabin is 9.83 m long, 2.19 m wide and 1.91 m high, so there is room to stand and move about on longer flights. One option is a four-seat club with a three-seat sofa and two further seats.
How quick is the G280?
It cruises at 459 kts (850 km/h), which puts it among the fastest jets in the super-midsize class, and its maximum operating speed is Mach 0.85. That pace shortens point-to-point flying time on short routes and medium-haul ones alike. When range matters more than time, crews can fly the long-range cruise of 430 KTAS instead.
How does the G280 compare with the Embraer Praetor 600?
On the published figures the two are close in speed: the G280's cruise is 850 km/h against 863 km/h for the Praetor 600. The Praetor 600 has the longer range, at 7,441 km against 6,667 km for the G280. In practice the choice usually comes down to the route, the cabin you prefer and which aircraft is available near your departure point.
Which city pairs can a G280 connect non-stop?
With IFR reserves it covers 3,600 nm (6,667 km). That is enough to fly New York from London, Frankfurt from Dubai or Tokyo from Singapore without a fuel stop, so it works for transatlantic business trips as well as regional flying. The final figure on any day depends on passengers, bags and winds.
Why is the G280 cabin so quiet?
Gulfstream fitted it with extensive soundproofing and cabin systems designed to keep noise low, so passengers can work, sleep or talk at a normal volume for the whole flight. Seating can be arranged in several ways to suit the group and the purpose of the trip.
