History
Gulfstream developed the G500 to succeed the G450. The newer aircraft flies faster and further, and it can carry more passengers or more baggage. In range and speed it sits in the middle of the current Gulfstream line, between the smaller jets and the flagship models.
The G500 brought fly-by-wire flight controls to the Gulfstream family, along with improved cabin pressurisation and new controls for cabin comfort and entertainment. Despite the gain in performance, its operating costs stayed level with the G450's. The main reason is the change of engine: Pratt & Whitney Canada PW814GA turbofans replaced the Rolls-Royce units of the older aircraft.
The cabin is 15.26 m long, with an open plan that can take 12 seats and a three-place sofa. Each swivelling leather seat has a simple touchscreen for lighting, temperature and entertainment, and the same functions are available through the Gulfstream app. Fourteen large oval windows bring plenty of daylight into the cabin.
The first customer took delivery of a G500 in September 2018, and the larger G600 joined the range about a year later. The G500 is still in production. Outside business aviation, Gulfstream types including the G500 work as special mission aircraft for about 40 countries, and the manufacturer reports more than 200 deliveries for medical or military work.

FAQ
Is the G500 a better pick than the Bombardier Global 5000?
The two aircraft compete for the same buyers. The Global 5000 has slightly more cabin space, but the G500 is the newer design, with a more modern cabin and flight deck. It burns about 379 litres less fuel per hour on average and cruises faster, saving around 20 minutes between Western Europe and the United States. Where both are available, the G500 is usually our recommendation.
How many people can travel in a G500?
A standard executive layout seats 10 to 14, and the aircraft is certified for up to 19. The cabin measures 15.26 m long, 2.41 m wide and 1.93 m high. It is supplied with 100 per cent fresh air throughout the flight, stays quiet at cruise and has 14 large oval windows.
How far can the G500 fly without refuelling?
The G500 has a range of 5,300 nm (9,816 km) with IFR reserves, and a ferry range of 5,841 nm. That is enough for a transatlantic sector such as New York to Paris with plenty in hand, and it reaches most of the main business centres from Europe or North America in one leg.
How quickly does the G500 cover long sectors?
It cruises at 516 knots (956 km/h), with a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.93. At that pace London to New York takes roughly seven hours, and Dubai to London a little over six. That suits transcontinental business travel, where every hour in the air counts.
What do the G500's fly-by-wire controls do?
Instead of mechanical linkages, the controls send electronic signals to the flight surfaces. The system includes flight envelope protection, which stops the aircraft being flown beyond its limits. It also smooths the ride, reduces the effect of turbulence and contributes to better fuel economy, including a more efficient climb to the 51,000 ft (15,545 m) ceiling.
Can the G500 operate from short or difficult runways?
Yes. High thrust and an efficient wing give it good performance on short runways and at airports at altitude. It can also fly the steep approaches required at London City Airport and at Lugano and Sion in Switzerland. As with any aircraft, the final answer for a given trip depends on weather and payload, which our advisors confirm before booking.
What is the price of a G500 charter?
We do not publish a standard price, because no two trips cost the same. The total depends on your route and dates, the distance the aircraft has to travel to reach you and the operator who flies it. Our advisors price each request individually and can usually return a quote quickly.
