History
The GIV-SP, where SP stands for Special Performance, replaced the original Gulfstream GIV on the production line in 1992, starting at serial number 1214. It took the lessons of five years of GIV operations since 1987 and combined them with feedback from customers and the technology available in the early 1990s.
Gulfstream kept what had made the GIV successful: two Rolls-Royce Tay 611-8 engines and a large cabin. The SP's gains came in operating capability, including higher certified takeoff and landing weights. The type remained in production until 2003 and became the basis for the G400 and G450 that followed it.

FAQ
How many passengers does the GIV-SP carry, and how big is the cabin?
Standard layouts seat 13 to 14, with up to 19 in a denser arrangement. The cabin is 13.77 m long, 2.30 m wide and 1.90 m high, so passengers can stand upright and move about freely. There is enough floor space to arrange areas for work, meetings and rest, and the aircraft holds around 12 suitcases.
What did the Special Performance upgrade change compared with the GIV?
Range and cruise speed stayed close to the original: both aircraft are rated at 4,091 nm, and the SP cruises at 476 knots against 480. The improvements are in the weights and field performance. Maximum takeoff weight rose to 33,838 kg, maximum landing weight to 29,937 kg, and the listed takeoff distance fell from 1,722 m to 1,359 m.
How fast is the GIV-SP?
It cruises at 476 knots (882 km/h), with a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.88 and a ceiling of 45,000 ft. That pace brings London to New York to roughly seven and a half hours, and Dubai to London to under seven, which keeps long business trips within a single day.
What routes can the GIV-SP fly without refuelling?
Its range with IFR reserves is 4,091 nm (7,577 km), and its ferry range is 4,220 nm. That covers sectors such as Dubai to Paris or New York to Rome in one leg. Its Rolls-Royce Tay engines are economical on fuel for an aircraft of this size.
Is the GIV-SP still in production?
No. Gulfstream built the GIV-SP from 1992 to 2003, and the G400 and G450 were developed from it. Every GIV-SP available for charter is therefore a used airframe, and our advisors can give you the year of build and interior details of the specific aircraft before you book.
